Family among the oldest and most powerful in Verona, where in the 10th century Goliath of this lineage was in renown. It possessed ancient fiefdoms and jurisdictions in the Pigozzo valley, which then passed into the Pigozzi family. In 1215 William had the post of Podestà of Cerea, and in 1239 he was banned with the confiscation of property by Emperor Frederick. Guidotto was an advocate of Ezellino, and having this tyrant imprisoned the podestàs of Brescia and Mantua in 1250, he had them imprisoned in the prisons of the Zerli; Zerlotto, Giacomo and Bonifacio in 1277 conspired against Mastino I della Scala; Alberto was made a knight by Alberto della Scala; William in 1512 entered the noble council, and was also of the college of judges.
