Antiga e nobre família espanhola, de clara e ancestral virtude, que se difundiu mundialmente, ao longo dos séculos. De acordo com o que foi repassado, a família é de origem italiana e, mais especificamente, genovesa. A família mudou-se para as Ilhas Canárias com um Don Santos Zerolo, nascido em Génova em 1817. Era filho de Don Tomás Zerolo e da Sra. Isabel Libori. Don Santos Zerolo casou-se em Arrecife (Lanzarote), onde se estabeleceu, com Madame Micaela Herrera Martín, em 20 de junho de 1843. Deste casamento nasceram: 1) Don Elias Dionísio Z. y Herrera, em 6 de abril de 1848, que casou-se com a senhora Armenia Castro e Febles em Santa Cruz de Tenerife em 1879. Foi um eminente estudioso e fundou a "Revista de Canárias" em 1878, "a de maior valor científico da nossa região no século XIX". 2) Don Tomás Zerolo y Herrera, a glória da Medicina Canária,
