A origem desta família ilustre é muito antiga, e as primeiras lembranças dela remontam a Andrea, eleita em 933, procuradora do corpo de S. Marco. No século XIII, Nicolò pertenceu ao Grande Conselho de 1261 a 1264, Paolo de 1265 a 1269 e Marino em 1266. Mas os dois Doges Sebastiano, eleitos em 1172 e Pietro, eleitos em 1205, trouxeram o maior prestígio a essa família. 1299 ele era do Conselho de XL. Dele descende Nicolò, que era do Grande Conselho em 1316, e quem era o pai de Dinomante, que morreu em 1375, e com quem a linhagem da família morreu.
