Questa famiglia era anticamente originaria di Aosta, ove furono Signori di Saint-Pierre i Baroni di Castellargento, ramo della potentissima famiglia Augustona de Sancto Petro. Nel 1095 un Albert fu teste in un atto fra i Signori di Avise e Gignod. Ugo, Guglielmo ed Enrico figurano fra i firmatari delle franchigie che Tommaso I di Savoia accordò ai Valdostani nel 1191. Onorato, negoziante spagnuolo di un ramo di questa famiglia e stabilitosi a Nizza, il 7 giugno 1783 fu investito del feudo "La Buffa" con titolo comitale, per maschi primogeniti. La famiglia è iscritta genericamente nell'Elenco Ufficiale Nobiliare Italiano del 1922 col titolo di Conte di Nieubourg (maschio primogenito) in persona dei Discendenti dal predetto Onorato.
