I membri di questa antica ed illustre famiglia derivano, dalla Pieve a Presciano nel contado Aretino, dove vi si vedono le loro armi in un edificio posseduto poi dai Ristori. Cinello Zinelli, di Coluccio da Collodi, valoroso capitano, tentò, nel 1328, di dar il castello di Collodi in mano ai Fiorentini: ma il piano da lui ordito fu scoperto, e il colpo fallì; ma la Repubblica di Firenze serbò gratitudine al Cinello, che nel 1342 andò come ambasciatore del Magistrato Municipale di Pescia, al Comune di Pistoia, e nel 1346 fu tra i Priori di Firenze. Giovanni, di Cecco Zinelli, fu riformatore in patria nel 1349 e 1374, e Priore nel 1373. Jacopo, di Bartolomeo, rettore di Santa Croce di Vinci, meritò nel 1544, da Cosimo II, la nomina a Priore dell'Ospedale di Bonifazio (oggi palazzo della questura) in Firenze.
