Antica famiglia, di chiara ed avita virtù, detta Zizziase, Zizi, Zizzo o Sizzo, la quale vuolsi originaria di Firenze, ove, sin dall'XI secolo, i suoi membri occuparono le più eminenti magistrature, in qualità di consoli, consiglieri del podestà ed ambasciatori. Un Nerlo Zizziase, inoltre, fondò il castello di Montelupo, al fine di domare la potenza dei conti di Capraja. Nel corso dei secoli, il casato, il quale si imparentò con l'esimia stirpe dei Noris, nobili inglesi, aggiungendone il cognome, si divise in più rami, propagatisi in diverse regioni d'Italia. Le varie diramazioni, alcune delle quali furono decorate del titolo di Conte, si stanziarono a Bergamo, a Trento, a Verona, a Napoli, in Terra di Bari ed in Sicilia. Dopo aver risieduto ad Imola, i Z. posero dimora in Verona, con un Corrado, giudice, nominato testimone nel testamento di Alberto della Scala nel 1301. Bartolomeo, suo figlio, ebbe pure il grado
