Pare che in origine due famiglie distinte fossero venute a stabilirsi in Genova nel secolo XIV da Zoagli e dal Finale: secondo il genealogo Federico una di queste sarebbe dapprima chiamata Queirolo: in Genova presero parte al governo e troviamo vari anziani e consiglieri nei secoli XIV e XV. Anselmo (1117), Giordano (1131), Andalo (1165) sarebbero consoli in Caffa: ma ciò è posto in dubbio dall'Olivieri (Atti Soc. Lig. St. Patr., vol I, f. III) Gotifredo, notaio del Finale, socio della Maona di Corsica (1325), ricevette fedeltà dai Corsi (1340), fu vicario nella riviera di Levante e castellano di Chiavari (1345), podestà di Finale (1348), console in Caffa (1357); Lanfranco, notaio e cancelliere della Repubblica, fu ambasciatore in Alessandria (1348), Manfredo, podestà di Savona (1346) e Nicolò, di Goffredo id. (1380), di Albenga (1369), padrone di galera (1373), anziano (1381, 83, 87), castellano di Chiavari (1381), podestà di Pera
