La famiglia proviene dalla Provenza, e, al dire di vari genealogisti, avrebbe comuni origini con la Casa Sovrana degli Orange. Stabilitasi a Nizza e a Ventimiglia, godette nobiltà da antico tempo. Fu insignita del patriziato Romano con Gio. Angelo nel 1698; Papa Clemente XVI con Breve del 29 settembre 1771 concesse il titolo di marchese a Giovanni Francesco e ai suoi discendenti per linea mascolina; un altro ramo della famiglia fu ascritto alla nobiltà genovese nel 1767 in persona di Angelo, d'anni 58; di Pasquale, suo figlio, d'anni 34 e di Giovanni Battista, d'anni 9, figlio di quest'ultimo. Nel 1774 Gio. Francesco fu investito della contea di Roccasterone da lui acquistata; un ramo passato in Piemonte, ed ora estinto, ebbe nel 1845 titolo di barone. La concessione di Clemente XIV fu meritata ricompensa alla fedeltà sempre dimostrata dagli Zorengo alla Santa Sede. Guelfi di antica data per sfuggire
