Fiorente fin dal 1019 nel qual anno un Adalberto conte e Maddalena, figlia del conte Zorigo, facevano una donazione in favore della chiesa di S. Ambrogio di Milano. Essa dividevasi in vari rami, e si trova esser fiorita in Bologna, in Cremona ed altrove. Il ramo di Milano venne contraddistinto col titolo di conte stato conferito da Carlo II Re di Spagna il 3 maggio 1700 a un Marco, sopra il feudo di Cortenuova. Comune stipite dei rami di Milano e di Cremona fu un Lanfranco, di Robiate, che fioriva nel 1280, e dal quale discesero, dopo tre generazioni, Martino e Giovanni, dal primo de' quali discese il ramo stabilito in Milano, e dal secondo derivò quello di Cremona che quivi prese il nome di Ambrosini e che si estinse nel secolo XVII, nella persona di Francesco, la cui figlia primogenita, maritata al Conte Carlo O, portò in questa famiglia
