Famiglia assai antica ed illustre, originaria del territorio di Verona, nei ricordi dei tempi andati si leggono alcune varianti di questo cognome, dovute alle solite cause della fonetica storica, della pronunzia dialettale e dal modo di interpretare nella scritturazione i cognomi, i quali derivano tutti dal patronimico Giorgio, Zorzo in dialetto veneto. E' comune opinione che i Zorzella, Zorzi e Zorza siano tutti rami di un unico ceppo, i Georgius, duchi di Slesia e Moravia, discesi in Italia al seguito dell'imperatore Onorio ed insediatisi in Veneto nel V secolo.
