Very ancient and very illustrious Venetian family, called Zorzi or Zorzo, counted among the best-known families of Venice, since the beginning of the ninth century, and whose members occupied the most respected magistrates. Tradition has it that this family descended from the ancient dukes of Moravia, who arrived in Italy in 411, in the service of the emperor Honorius. They would then move to reside in Pavia, where they acquired various properties and would have taken the surname of Giorgi or Giorgio (hence the Venetian Zorzi or Zorzo) from a Giorgio, liberator of the besieged city, at the time of Bishop Epifanio and who, fleeing Attila, he would have reached the Lagoon in 453, contributing to the foundation of Venice.
