Odorico di Aumbech della Carintia, ottenuto Passenso da Popone patriarca di Aquileia, fondò il castello di Cuccagna sulle falde dei monti vicino a Faetis. Da questo Odorico si propagò nel Friuli la sua famiglia, la quale prese il nome del castello medesimo e si chiamò di Cuccagna. I signori di esso possedevano la prerogativa di camerieri ereditari dei patriarchi di Aquileia, ossia del ducato del Friuli; e sotto il veneto regime, quella di regolatori del parlamento friulano. Si portò questa famiglia ad abitare in Udine nel 1320 e fu ascritta a quella cittadinanza. Da quattro nipoti del summenzionato Odorico derivarono quattro grandi rami di questa famiglia, i quali, per distinguersi fra loro, presero i nomi di Freschi, di Zucco, di Partistagno e di Valvasone. Oltre il feudo di Cuccagna, i Z. hanno posseduto i villaggi di Crauglio, di Bando, di Bugnias, di Silisca, di Faetan, i castelli di Partistagno, di
