Famiglia di Feltre che fu ascritta a quel nobile Consiglio nel 1709. Aggiunse per conseguita eredità il cognome Tauro per sentenza del tribunale di Belluno del 10 agosto 1914 e autorizzata con Regio Decreto 19 luglio 1929. Fu confermata nobile con Sovrana Risoluzione 26 giugno 1821 e riconosciuta con Decreto Ministeriale 15 febbraio 1928. L'aggiunta del cognome de Mezzan fu autorizzata per il capostipite onorevole avvocato Spartaco Tauro e per i suoi due figli Gian Galeazzo e Paolina, con Regio decreto 19 luglio 1929, registrato alla Corte dei Conti il 19 agosto stesso anno. Fu costume delle più antiche famiglie, le quali dopo la caduta del Romano Imperio, in quella inondatione de' Barbari, havendo i loro cognomi, sicome gli studi, e altre cose belle smarrito e restati solo con semplici nomi, trarre di nuovo i loro cognomi, e il loro casato da' nomi proprii paterni, e de' maggiori.

Inquartato: nel primo e quarto di rosso all'aquila bicipite d'oro; nel secondo e terzo d'azzurro alla torre d'argento, aperta, finestrata e murata di nero, dalla quale esce un toro rivolto d'oro, il tutto posto sopra una campagna di verde (Tauro). Sul tutto uno scudetto posto in cuore d'azzurro al pino di verde nodrito sopra un monte di tre cime dello stesso uscente dalla punta (Zugni).
