Famiglia originaria dalla Spagna e ritenuta della stessa agnazione della illustre famiglia omonima derivata da don Alfonso Ramirez, Infante di Navarra, che avendo sposato donna Sancia, figliuola ed erede di don Inigo, signore di Estunigia, diede origine al cognome de Z. nel sec. XII. Il Ricca, nel suo pregevole lavoro: nobiltà del Regno delle due Sicilie, la dice derivata da Pietro II, giustiziere maggiore di Castiglia, conte di Banarez e marchese di Ayamonte, morto nel 1481, che aveva impalmato nel 1454 de Gusman dei duchi di Medina Sidonia e poscia Maria Pimentel. Venne in Italia con Cristoval, morto alla battaglia di Pavia nel 1525, capitano della Cavalleria del Regno delle Due Sicilie e marito di Laura Boffa. La famiglia fu ricevuta per giustizia nel S.M.O. di Malta dal 1618 con Carlo dei baroni di Chianca e con Giovanni Battista nel 1745 per prova di consanguineità col precedente. Venne riconosciuta di
