Questa famiglia fu originata nel XII secolo da D.Alfonso Ramirez Infante di Navarra, Signore di Castroviejo, Mendavia ed Alesanco, figliuolo secondogenito di Garzia V Ramirez Re di Navarra. Sposò egli Sancia figliuola ed erede d'Innico Signore di Estuniga, dalla quale signoria presero nome i loro discecndenti, chiamandosi de Stuniga, Sunica, Zunica e Z. Innico Ortiz de Zunica trapiantò la sua famiglia in Castiglia nel 1274. Lupo de Z., Signore di Canalès, stabilì la sua famiglia in Andalusia nel 1400. Fernando de Zunica, Signore di Escariche, stabilì la sua famiglia a Guadalaxara. Questa famiglia fu portata in Napoli nel 1514 da Cristofaro Zunica, Capitano di Cavalleria, morto valorosamente all'assedio di Pavia, servendo l'Imperatore Carlo V. Questa famiglia ha goduto nobiltà nella Navarra, in Castiglia, in Napoli al Seggio di Porto, in Lucera ed in Sicilia. Vestì l'abito di Malta nel 1617; fu insignita dell'Ordine del Toson d'Oro ed ottenne il Grandato
