This family was originated in the XII century by D. Alfonso Ramirez Infante of Navarra, Lord of Castroviejo, Mendavia and Alesanco, second son of Garzia V Ramirez King of Navarra. He married Sancia, daughter and heir of Innico Signore di Estuniga, from whose lordship their descendants took their name, calling themselves de Stuniga, Sunica, Zunica and Z. Innico Ortiz de Zunica transplanted his family to Castile in 1274. Lupo de Z., Lord of Canalès, he established his family in Andalusia in the 1400s. Fernando de Zunica, Lord of Escariche, established his family in Guadalaxara. This family was brought to Naples in 1514 by Cristofaro Zunica, Captain of Cavalry, who died valiantly at the siege of Pavia, serving the Emperor Charles V.
