Famiglia di Sorgono, le cui notizie risalgono al secolo XVII. Già dal 1643 un Melchiorre Zurru, fu ammesso allo stamento militare durante il Parlamento Avellano, ottenendo, però, il cavalierato ereditario solo nel 1651. I suoi figli formarono due rami della famiglia: da Salvatore discese un ramo, che si estinse a Sorgono nella prima metà del secolo XVII;l'altro, invece, discese da Gian Tommaso, il cui figlio Giuseppe nel 1747 ottenne la nobiltà. Quest'ultimo era una persona di grande prestigio ed ottenne l'ufficio di subdelegato dell'intendenza per il Mandrolisai; ufficio che i suoi discendenti mantennero fino agli inizi del secolo XIX. Numerosi personaggi, con tale cognome, si trovano, di sovente, menzionati nei documenti notarili, nei quali è menzionata la discendenza nobiliare. Degno di annovero è certamente, tra i molti, il vescovo di Bosa dal 1819 al 1822, Gavino Zurru, il quale godette anche della stima di Vittorio Emanuele I, re di Sardegna
