Un Maestro Luca, perchè celebre in Firenze nell'insegnare la grammatica e l'aritmetica ai giovanetti, fu detto dell'Abbaco nome che restò ai suoi discendenti, i quali ottennero dieci volte il priorato tra il 1469 ed il 1526. Questa famiglia si estinse dopo la metà del XVI secolo. Vi fu in Firenze altra famiglia, alla quale dette nome un maestro Pietro di Ser Paolo famoso geometra, grande aritmetico ed il più famoso grammatico del suo tempo. Egli ottenne il priorato nel 1363, e portò per stemma una tavoletta da abaco bianca in campo nero; ma la sua famiglia che si estinse nel XVI secolo usava un addogato d'azzurro, d'oro e di rosso, col capo di rosso con un A gotica d'argento. Altra famiglia originaria bavarese, fu investita del titolo Baronale il 12 maggio 1766, alzò per arma: D'Azzurro alla fascia di rosso accompagnata in capo da due mani di carnagione poste in
