La famiglia di città di Castello godè fino dai più antichi tempi i maggiori onori della propria patria. Francesco di Guido figura nel 1452 tra i 16 consiglieri dell'arbitrio; Pier Antonio di Francesco nel 1486 fu capitano dei priori; Lorenzo di Pier Francesco fu eletto Gonfaloloniere nel 1570 e Donato di Lorenzo dei 40 del Reggimento nel 1602 e nel 1603. I B. vestirono l'abito di cavaliere nella regione di S. Stefano nella commenda di loro patronato incominciando da Tommaso di Rutilio nel 1674. Trasferita la loro residenza in Arezzo, ottennero l'ascrizione al patriziato di quella città con decreto 15 gennaio 1759, in applicazione dell'art. 21 della legge 1750 sulla nobiltà. Discendenti da Giovanni, di Antonio, di Giovanni.
