Famiglia originaria di Oglianico nel Canavese nella cui istoria compare fin dalla fondazione del Comune nel quattordicesimo secolo. Ha per suo capostipite quel notaio Giacomo che per Patenti di Madama Reale, Cristina di Francia, Duchessa di Savoia, del 21 giugno 1647, ottenne la conferma dello stemma gentilizio. Nato il 27 luglio 1588 e morto il 13 agosto 1668, Giacomo lasciò superstiti i figli Giovanni, Battista e Bernardo. Il primo, laureatosi in leggi all'Università di Torino, morì in Oglianico lasciando un figlio di nome Giacomo, come il nonno, il quale, il 30 agosto 1687, consegnava lo stemma avito. Bernardo suddetto, continuando nel luogo nativo la tradizione paterna di onore, sposò la cugina margherita Rossi e ne ebbe Giuseppe, il quale, nell'atto di nascita. Ancora un secolo dopo, negli atti notarili il pronipote di Bernardo, di nome Giovanni Domenico, qualificato "Nobile", è chiamato ripetutamente "Rosso Boc"; da cui, gradatamente, la forma odierna
