Famiglia che i genealogisti lucchesi fanno provenire da Avane, castello di Pisa, dalla qual città si sarebbe trasferita a Lucca nel secolo XIII. Furono signori di torre, compresi nel bando dato ai nobili e potenti nello Statuto del 1308. Si ritrovano in Lucca sotto la signoria di Castruccio Castracani, che concesse il 10 dicembre 1327 a Pello, e Gerio, figli di Coluccio q. Pietro, di potere conservare il cavalcavia, che congiungeva le case e la torre comprate dagli Incalocchiati in contrada di S. Alessandro maggiore. Nella Repubblica coprirono molte volte le cariche di Gonfaloniere e di Anziano, e furono iscritti nel Libro d'oro delle famiglie nobili, formato l'anno 1628. Fra i più noti di questa famiglia sono: fr. Pacifico (1465-1519) al secolo Filippo, di Pietro ed Angela Bernardini, ardente discepolo e supposto biografo del Savonarola; Francesco (1498-1548) il Gonfaloniere di Lucca, decapitato a Milano per la sua congiura contro la
