Famiglia patrizia dogale genovese. Con questo cognome furono in Genova più famiglia nei vari tempi, la più parte provenienti dalla valle della Polcèvera e qualcuna dal luogo di Carrega sito nell'Appennino: difatti il nome loro compariva in Genova già il 1390, e veniva scritto al patriziato genovese in più volte il 1608, il 1673, il 1731, il 1796, estinguendosi e succedendosi l'una l'altra le varie linee. Oggi vivono i discendenti degli ascritti nel 1731 e 1796, decorati nei loro primogeniti del titolo marchionale. Di queste due famiglie la prima fu ascritta il 1731 nelle persone dei fratelli Giovan Maria (n. 1683, senatore 1753), Santino (n. 1685, dec. 1762), Bartolomeo (n. 1688), Francesco, Gaetano (n. 1691, senatore 1752), Michelangelo (n. 1693, senatore 1765), figli di Giovan Battista di Giovan Maria; dei fratelli Giovan Battista (n. 1711, doge 1771, dec. 1772) e Nicolò Maria (n. 1717, senatore 1768), figli di Giovan Maria,
