Assai illustre schiatta, di chiara ed avita virtù, sorta dall'unione di tre insigni famiglie italiane. La prima, ovvero quella dei Lunghi, meglio conosciuta come Longhi, è un'antica famiglia romana, di origine bergamasca, i cui membri si sono resi noti anche per aver occupato Fumone, quali Castellani e Signori del luogo. Moltissimi gli uomini illustri, che da essa pervennero, i quali si distinsero nella arti, nella religione e nelle armi. Il primo dei Longhi che dimorò in Fumone, fu il Cardinale Guglielmo de Longis, elevato alla porpora da Clemente V dopo la canonizzazione di Celestino V, nell'anno 1323. Il fratello di lui, Marco Tullio, già custode di Celestino V durante la sua prigionià, fu eletto Castellano perpetuo, con regolare Bolla rogita ad Avignone dal notaio della Santa Sede. I figli di Marco Tullio L. ne continuarono la prosapia e nel 1359 ritroviamo Giovanni L., in qualità di cavaliere dello Speron d'Oro.

Partito; nel primo inquartato nel 1° e 4° d'argento al leone di nero attraversato da due bande unite d’oro e d’azzurro, nel 2° e 3° d'azzurro alla torre d’oro, aperta e finestrata di nero sormontata da una crocetta di rosso bordata(o raggiante) d’oro; nel secondo d'azzurro alla palma e al terrazzo di verde, fruttata d'oro accostata da due leoni al naturale affrontanti e controrampanti.
