Antica ed assai nobile famiglia piemontese, oriunda da Acceglio, le cui prime certe memorie ci ricordano un Francesco, fiorente verso il 1620. Il pronipote di costui, Giorgio, di Giorgio Antonio, che era insinuatore a Dronero (1784), fu nobilitato e infeudato di S. Martino (Novara) il 6 agosto 1790 e investito il 2 luglio 1791, col titolo comitale. Sposò (1763) Cristina Ceaglio, e furono suoi figli Cesare e Giuseppe, stipite quest'ultimo di una linea secondogenita. Cesare (nato Dronero, 25 gennaio 1775, defunto a Torino, 29 gennaio 1856), che fu dottore in leggi, procreò, fra gli altri, Gustavo (nato Cuneo, 6 gennaio 1810, defunto Dronero, 6 settembre 1876), che fu intendente generale, ministro dell'Interno, luogotenente del Re a Napoli e fu mandato in missione al pontefice Pio IX per intimargli la resa di Roma. Fu deputato nella terza, quarta e quinta legislatura, e venne nominato senatore del Regno il 6 marzo
