ALLEGRA | ALLEGRETTI | ALLEGRI | ALLEGRINI | ALLEGRO | ALLEGRONE | ALLEGRONI

Allegra is typical Sicilian, Allegretti seems to have more stocks, in Mantua and Modena, in Umbria and Lazio and in Puglia and Lucania, Allegri is widespread in Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto, upper Tuscany, Emilia and Romagna, Allegrini is typical of the central belt and of Puglia, Allegro is present as a leopard spot all over Italy, Allegrone, quite rare, is specific to the Alessandria area, Tortona and Cerreto Grue in particular, Allegroni, probably always Piedmontese from the Alessandria area, has now almost disappeared, should derive , directly or through hypocoristic or augmentative modifications, from the medieval name Alegrus of which we have an example in the Diplomatic Code of medieval Lombardy in a judgment issued in 1181 we read: "... Pro evil ablated, and tenth evil retenta, and souls mee remedi et mercede, et sic ut supra legitur, ipse investivi Alegrus Iohannem qui dicitur de Ferrera de eodem loco ad partem et utilitatem suprascripte ecclesie ....
