ALONCI | ALONGE | ALONGI

Alonci is almost unique, Alonge is Sicilian, with a stock in the Agrigento area, in Agrigento, Raffadali, Menfi, Sciacca and Favara, Alongi is also a decidedly Sicilian surname, much more widespread, it has a stock in Palermo, in Palermo, Villabate, Monreale, Prizzi, Caccamo and Cefalà Diana, in the Agrigento area, in Agrigento, Favara, Aragon, Naro, San Giovanni Gemini, Menfi, Raffadali, Campobello di Licata and Realmonte, in the Catania area, in Adrano and Catania, in Nisseno, in Sutera and Sommatino, and in Trapani in San Vito lo Capo, could derive from a modification of the Spanish surname Alongio, or from its Provençal form Alonge, but it is also quite probable that it derives from dialectal modifications of the name Alonsus of Spanish origin, but present in a rather significant measure in Sicily since at least 1500, of the use of this name in Sicily we have an example in this letter of the year 1548: "... magnificum et reverendum fratrem Alonsum de Madrigal ordinis eiusdem Sacred Religions s Hiresolimitane preceptorem Marsalie et Corleonis ... ".
