ANFOSSI | ANFOSSO

Anfossi is typical of the extreme western band of northern Italy, with a main nucleus in the area of Taggia (IM), a stock in the area of Alba (CN), one in Turin and one not secondary in Milan, Anfosso is typical of Liguria derive from the medieval name Anfossus, an archaic form of Alfonso, of which we have an example in the Diplomatic Code of medieval Lombardy under the year 1179: "... here in eorum subter leguntur presentia estimaverunt quod pocior illa terra erat quam ipse prefatus Anfossus presbiter ab eodem monasterio Morimondi recipiebat quam ipse dabat ... ", we find traces of this surname in Pisa in the 12th century:" ... ideo nos Alcherius Anfossi et Bandinus Burgundii, Lamfrancus quondam Gerarduccii, Lamfrancus Boccii atque Battepalia, pisanorum Dei gratia consules ... ", in Taggia in 1600 we find the family of the notaries Anfossi.
