ANGHELEDDU

Angheleddu, typically Sardinian, is specific of the Nuorese, of Fonni and Nuoro, it derives from the hypocoristic in Sardinian language of the name Anghelu (Angelo), it is therefore the Sardinian equivalent of Angelino. additions provided by Giuseppe Concas ANGHELEDDU: little angel: as an angel; from the Latin angelus; even more from the Greek άγγελος (ànghelos). Many toponyms of Sardinia bear this name: the most famous is Anghelu Ruju, prehistoric necropolis located in the countryside of Alghero, with artificial "caves of the domus de Janas" type - 38 tombs carved in rock (limestone sandstone - see in the Web - Alghero - necropolis of Anghelu Ruju). The surname Angheleddu is present in 20 Italian Municipalities, of which 15 in Sardinia: Fonni 40, Nuoro 36, Sassari 12, Ittiri 11, etc.
