Boter is practically unique, Boteri is Piedmontese and practically unique, Botero is almost unique, Botter has a Lombard lineage in the Bergamo area, Brescia and Veneto in the Treviso area, Treviso, Asolo, San Zenone degli Ezzelini and Silea, and in the Venetian , in San Donà di Piave, Venice, Caorle and Portogruaro, Botteri has a lineage between Pavia and Piacenza, where it is more widespread, and one in Trieste, Bottero is typical of central-southern Piedmont, in particular of the Cuneo area, and of central-western Liguria, with a strain between Trevisano and Padovano, should derive from the medieval term boterus or botterus (who carried out the job of cooper or barrel maker), traces of these surnames of which we find them in 1500 with the writer and historian Giovanni Botero (1543-1617) originating from Bene Vagienna (Cuneo).
