BRUNELLA | BRUNELLI | BRUNELLO

Brunella is very rare and would seem to be from the Varese area, Brunelli is widespread throughout the central north, Brunello is decidedly Venetian, they all derive from the name Bruno or from nicknames originating from the color of the skin or hair. We find traces of this surname in Cremona, where we find a letter of intimation from the episcopal curia of Cremona dated 5 February 1571, addressed to the canons of the church of the SS. Maria and Sigismondo of Rivolta d'Adda, for the payment of 20 liras each to Brandimarte Brunelli, provost of the aforementioned church. Quite famous character was the Franciscan father Gregorio Brunelli famous preacher and reader in the Venetian province confessor of Silvestro Valerio Prince of Venice.
