CALIA

Calia has a large stock in Puglia, one in Trapani and Palermo and one in Nuoro in Sardinia, it should derive from the archaic Italian term calìa (decline, small and ridiculous person), which however was also referred to minor jewelery merchants, to Lucera in the Foggia area, for example, during the Renaissance, the Via di Calìa was the one where these merchants recently offered their articles made with recycled gold and this could have been the job of the founder, but, in the area of Magna Grecia, could also derive from the Greek word kalos (beautiful, cute) with a completely different meaning.
