CALLERI

Calleri has a stock in the Cuneo area of Carrù and Mondovì and in Turin has a stock in Genoa and Albenga (SV), but the main core is in Scordia in the Catania area and in Palazzolo Acreide, Syracuse and Canicattini Bagni in the Syracuse area, the Ligurian and Piedmontese stocks they would therefore be due to the phenomenon of emigration from the south, they could therefore derive from a dialectal form originating from the Greek term kalos (beautiful), but very probably it is simply an altered form of the surname Callari (see CALLARI), the hypothesis that leads to derive the northern Calleri from toponyms like Moncalieri or Pancalieri in Turin is quite unlikely. additions provided by Giovanni Vezzelli Calleri is a Sicilian and Calabrian surname and is the Italianization of the Greek surname Kalleris. In the XVIII century it was the name of a notary in Oppido. Rohlfs 60.
