CHIANA | DELLA CHIANA

Both Chiana and Della Chiana are almost unique, they should derive from nicknames indicating that the families came from the Chiana (plain, plain).

CHIANA | LA

The Chiana, which is absolutely rare, seems to be specific to Campobello Di Mazara in the Trapani area, it should derive from the archaic dialectal term la chiana (the plateau, the plain), we find traces of this co-domination between the second half of the 1500s and the first of 1600 with the priest of the Society of Jesus, mathematician and writer Girolamo La Chiana of which we remember among other things the epigrams.
