CEGLIA | DE CEGLIA | DI CEGLIA

Widespread in Campania Ceglia, especially in the upper Salerno, Basilicata and Foggia and surrounding areas, De Ceglia is instead specific to Molfetta (BA), Di Ceglia, absolutely rare, is probably due to a transcription error of the previous one, they could all derived from one of the toponyms containing the word Ceglie, the hypothesis that would make it descend from the medieval Norman name Celia is quite unlikely, traces of these surnames are found in Molfetta at least since 1600 with the De Ceglia and Picerno (PZ) since 1700 with the Ceglia.
