ERLE

Erle, very very rare, is typical of the Vicenza area, it should derive from a place name cited for example in this writing of the early 1100s: "... Praepositus Wernerus dedit fratribus pro commemoratione his ecclesiam Erle 6 marcas argenti ...", in 1338 we read that a certain Folperus was decanus de Erle, but it is also probable that they derive from a nickname originated from the fact that the progenitor lived near alni or alders which in German are called erlen (alders), or even a wood of plane trees: "... usque ad platanos, que erlen dicuntur ..:".
