Falda has a small Piedmontese stock, in the Verbanese area in Cesara and Villadossola, and an even smaller one in the Veneto region at Albettone in the Vicenza area and Cologna Veneta in the Verona area, Faldi is specific to Florence and Prato, Faldini has very small presences in Bologna and Palermo, with scattered unique evidence around central and northern Italy, Faldino and Faldo are almost unique, they should all derive, directly or through hypocorisms, from the Germanic name Faldus, Falda, existing both as a separate name, and as an apheretic form of names like Mafalda , Barufaldus, Strufaldus or similar, of the use of this name we have an example in a recording of the second half of 1200 in Montaperti in the Siena area: "..Die iovis presentavit salmam j panis. Die lune infrascripta presentavit salmam j panis et anone. Die lune xxx agusti presentavit salmam j panis. Faldus Mellioris ... ".
