FENDERICI | FENDERICO

Fenderici, practically unique, is probably due to a transcription error by Fenderico, which is specific to Naples. additions provided by Stefano Ferrazzi The origin of these surnames is to be found in the medieval name Fenderico, which, in ancient onomastics, arises from a variant of the more common Federico (see Federici): from the etymological point of view, in fact, it should be noted that the name Federico was known mainly as Frederico or Frederigo in medieval Italy (deriving from the Germanic Friedrich) and, in this sense, the Fenderico pronunciation is influenced by a metathesis of the syllable Fre-, transformed precisely into Fer- the passage from Fer- to Fen - is probably due to a weakening of the -r- in front of the -d- that follows, favoring a dialectal pronunciation. In conclusion, therefore, these are the surnames of the personal names of the founders.
