Ferraioli has a stock in Rome and Nettuno and in the Latin area of Terracina, but the main core is in the Salerno area at Angri, Pagani, Sant`Egidio del Monte Albino, Nocera Inferiore, Scafati and Salerno, Ferraiolo, more rare, has a small stock at Rome, Caserta, Naples and Salerno, Ferraiuolo is widespread in Caserta and Naples, a little less in Salerno, Basilicata and Cosenza, with a stock also in Catanzaro, Ferrajoli, absolutely rare, is from Salerno, Ferrajolo, very very rare, it has a small stock in Caserta and Naples, it could derive from the blacksmith's trade carried out by the progenitor, as it is also possible that they derive from nicknames originated from the term ferrajolo (sort of mantle of red or violet color, of fine cloth, cloth or seta) derived in turn from the Arabic term faryul, perhaps to indicate a religious or civil charge of the progenitor, traces of these surnames of which we find in Salerno at least from the 1500s.
