Irde absolutely rare, it is typically Sardinian, of Cuglieri and Bosa in the Oristano area, of Bonorva in the Sassari area and of Cagliari, Irdi is practically unique. additions provided by Giuseppe Concas IRDE: irde, irdi mean green, from the Latin viridis. (see Virde). Irde> due to the fall of the initial consonant "v": a common phenomenon in the Sardinian language. Conca-irde or conca-irdi (green head) is the male of the wild duck, also called su pibidòni. In the ancient papers of the language and history of Sardinia we find Virde or Virdi or Virdis (see Virde). The surname Irde is present in 26 Italian Municipalities, of which 13 in Sardinia (mostly central): Cuglieri 15, Bonorva 13, Bosa 11, Cagliari 10, etc.
