LAMA | LAMI

Lama has nuclei in Milan and Brescia, in Bologna and Ravenna and in Naples and Caserta, Lami has a stock in Tuscany, one in Modena and one in Rome, they could derive from toponyms like Lama di Marzabotto (BO), Lama Mocogno (MO) , Lama Polesine (RO), Lama (AR) or Lama (PV), but it is also possible to derive from the late Latin family Lamia, belonging to the Gens Aelia, a descendant of the mythical Lamus, the mythological son of Poseidon and king of the Lestrigoni founder of Formia, we recall in the 1st century AD Lucius Aelius Lamia consul of Rome in the year 3 AD, which we find in Cicero's De Oratore: "... Crassus apud M. Perpernam iudicem pro Aculeone cum diceret, adherat against Aculeonem Gratidiano L. Aelius Lamia, deformis, ut nostis, qui cum interpellaret odiose, "audiamus" inquit ... ", traces of these surnames can be found in the 1700s with the Tuscan writer Giovanni Lami (1697-1770).
