LA | LEGGIA

The Leggia is typically Sicilian, from Mazzarino in Nisseno and from San Cono in the Catania area, it could derive from a toponym such as the Acqua Leggia district of Ventimiglia di Sicilia in the Palermo area, but more probably it derives from a nickname originated from the Sicilian term leggia (light), second some the surname would simply be due to initial errors of transcription of the surname La Loggia (see LA LOGGIA) attributed to foundlings.
