LIGAS

Ligas is widespread throughout Sardinia, especially in the Nuoro, middle Campidano and Cagliari areas. additions provided by Giuseppe Concas LIGAS: liga means garter st and comes directly from the Spanish liga; from the Latin verb ligare = to tie, to tie. Here in Campidano we call it the shoe binding or even to tie up the sheaves we call it liòngiu, or ligòngiu, always from the Latin ligare. Among the signatories of the Peace of Eleonora, * LPDE of 1388 we have: Liga Guiglelmo - de Castri Januensis (Castelsardo); Ligas Laurencio, Laconi villas; Ligas Margiano, Laconi villas. Currently the surname is present in 115 Municipalities of the national territory, of which 56 in Sardinia: Cagliari 127, Ninnai 92, Lanusei 74, etc.
