LOMBINI | LOMBINO

Lombini is a typically Romagna surname of Forlì, Ravenna and Faenza in the Ravenna area, Lombino is specific to Palermo and Agrigento, San Giovanni Gemini, Cammarata and Palma di Montichiaro, it should be apheretic forms of Colombini or Colombino and could indicate that the progenitors were foundlings, often in the north of Italy a surname like Colombi, Colombini, or its less transparent derivatives, was imposed on abandoned children, to underline their innocence and purity, but in 1800 the custom could have been also transmitted to the south. An important character was the American writer of Italian origins Salvatore Lombino, better known as Ed McBain, author among other things of many sets of Hitchcock films, for example in the movie "The Birds".
