MOSER

Specific to Trentino Alto Adige, it could derive from the toponym Moso in Passiria (BZ), but it is also possible to derive from the German moos (moss) through a nickname or directly from the Austrian surname Moser of which we have an example in 1600 with Maria Sidonia Moser von Muerzgraben from Graz. Additions provided by Giovanni Vezzelli Moser is a surname of German origin, in which the tonic accent initially fell on the 'ó': (Móser). It has been documented that it is in the Piné area that the accent has slipped onto the second syllable. In Italian, the surname could be translated as "Dalla Palude" since the noun German Moos, as well as 'moss' also means 'swamp'. Its origin is probably to be connected to the marshy area that was once south of Miola, a hamlet of Baselga di Piné. From the area of Pinè, in particular from Faida and Miola, the surname has spread widely throughout the Trentino.
