Nistri has two independent strains, one in the Florentine and one in the Brindisi area, which could derive from the apheresis of the Latin cognomen Synister, an almost extinct Nistro that seems to be from central Italy, perhaps from Abruzzo and could derive from the apheresis of the toponym Canistro (AQ).
