PALETTA

Paletta has a stock in Perugia, one in Scanno nell'aquilano, one in Rome and one in Calabria, in Crotone, in Cirò, Savelli, rucoli, Verzino, and Crotone, in the Cosenza area in Roggiano Gravina, Cetraro, Cariati, Santa Caterina Albanese , Mandatoriccio and Cosenza, and in Serrastretta in the Catanzaro area, could derive from a nickname based on the term paletta (small shovel), typical one used to clean the hearth or the plow, perhaps to indicate that the founders always had in hand that kind of instrument, but, most probably derives from a contracted form of a hypocoristic of the name Paola (see PALETTI).
