Pampinto, practically unique, is the contracted form of Panepinto, which is typically Sicilian, of Agrigento, in particular of San Giovanni Gemini, but also of Casteltermini, Cammarata and Bivona, of Palermo, Valledolmo and Caccamo in the Palermo area and of Caltanissetta, should derive from a nickname originated from the term pane pinto, that is dark bread, cheap bread, referring to a progenitor of which obviously there was no good opinion (see in antithesis PAMBIANCO).
