SAVARESE

Savarese typically seems to be Campano, Neapolitan, in particular of Vico Equense and Naples, with substantial presences also in Castellammare di Stabia, Sant'Anastasia, Piano di Sorrento, Sorrento, Marano di Napoli, Pompei, Massa Lubrense, Sant'Agnello, Meta, Bacoli, Qualiano and San Giorgio a Cremano, and Cava de ' Tirreni, Pagani and Salerno in Salernitano, should be an ethnic form derived from countries like Sava in Salerno, perhaps the place of origin of the ancestor. It is difficult to assume a derivation from the ancient Hungarian town of Savaria (the ancient Latin name of Szombathely), although it would not be impossible, as it may have come this term brought by Roman Legionnaires and later by military to Sequel to the Swabian Emperor. Additions provided by Giovanni Vezzelli Savarese is a Sicilian surname by the Greek surname Sávaris. Rohlfs 168.
