SCIACCALUGA

Sciaccaluga is typically Genoese, should derive from a nickname originated from the dialect Genoese Sciacca (Schiaccia, Pigia) combined with the word UGA (UVA), probably motivated by the profession of the founder, who may have been a winemaker, Grape crusher for the vinification of the same. Traces of this cognitive knowledge we find in Cagliari in 1729, when a certain Giuseppe Masetti receives from Giovanni Sciaccaluga from Genoa, a sum to pledge of a supply of marbles worked for use of the local factory of the Duomo. Additions provided by Roberto Milani derives from a dialect nickname originated from the words sciacca (Schiaccia, Pesta) and UGA (UVA).
