VARISCHI | VARISCO

Varisks, almost unique, should be Lombard, Varisco, more widespread, it seems specific Milanese, could derive from the Latin cognomen Varus. Additions provided by Alessandra Gobbi according to one of our readers, the origin of the name would not be Latin, but Slavic (Polish or Belarussian: in Russian "Varit" is a verb and means "to cook, to boil" and "Varen ' E", always, in Russian means jam, in the sense of fruit made to bake in sugar): "Varisks"-alternating with the variant "Varisco" would be the italianization of the surname "Warizky or Variskij" additions provided by Marco Varisco (Milan). According to another reader, it is quite probable that Varisco is a Slavic patronymic, deriving from the own name Jari and the suffix patronymic-isk, then Jarisk italianized in time in Varisco.
